British Columbia taxes we handle for you
GST — 5%, filed with the CRA. You must register once your taxable sales exceed $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters.
PST — 7% provincial sales tax on most goods, software and some services. It is separate from the GST: registered with and filed to the BC Ministry of Finance (eTaxBC), monthly, quarterly or annually. Small sellers with $10,000 or less of taxable sales may not need to register (exceptions apply).
Corporate income tax — BC small business rate of 2% on the first $500,000 of active business income of a Canadian-controlled private corporation (about 11% combined with federal tax); general rate 12% (about 27% combined). Calculated on the federal T2 return, filed with the CRA.
Payroll — CPP, EI, federal and BC income tax are withheld and remitted to the CRA. T4 slips are due by the last day of February.
Employer Health Tax (EHT) — payable only if your BC payroll exceeds $1 million. Annual return due March 31.
WorkSafeBC — most employers must register for workers’ compensation coverage before hiring.
Annual report — BC companies file an annual report with BC Registries every year.

Example: an online store in Vancouver
An incorporated online store in Vancouver sells $200,000 of goods a year to BC customers.
- It charges 5% GST ($10,000) and 7% PST ($14,000) on its sales.
- Two separate returns: GST to the CRA, PST to the BC Ministry of Finance — with different rules: GST paid on business expenses is recovered as input tax credits, while PST generally is not.
- Profit is taxed at the small business rate, and we help choose the right mix of salary and dividends for the owner.
What we do for this client: monthly bookkeeping, GST and PST returns, payroll and T4/T5 slips, the T2 corporate return and the owner’s personal return.
