Frequently asked questions about restaurant accounting
What expenses can a restaurant deduct?
How do I handle sales tax returns for my restaurant?
Do I have to report my employees’ tips?
How can accounting improve my restaurant’s profitability?
How are tips handled in restaurant payroll?
The rules depend on your province and on how tips are paid. In Québec, employees must declare their tips to their employer, who includes them in payroll, calculates the source deductions and contributions, and reports them on the year-end slips. Elsewhere in Canada, tips controlled by the employer are processed through payroll, while tips received directly by employees are generally reported by the employees themselves. Our payroll service applies the right rules for you.
How much does an accountant cost for a restaurant?
Our packages start at $150 per month (bookkeeping, sales tax returns and simplified financial statements). The Sérénité package ($250 per month) adds payroll for up to 2 employees, and the Exclusivité package (from $500 per month) suits restaurants with a larger team. See our pricing page.
