Québec tax rules we handle for you
Two income tax returns — Québec residents file a federal return (T1) with the CRA and a separate Québec return (TP-1) with Revenu Québec. You also receive Québec RL slips in addition to the federal T slips.
GST and QST — 5% GST plus 9.975% QST. For most Québec businesses, both are filed with Revenu Québec. You must register once your taxable sales exceed $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters.
Corporations — a federal T2 with the CRA and a Québec CO-17 with Revenu Québec. Québec’s small business rate is only available to corporations that meet the paid-hours test (generally 5,500 hours); many small corporations pay the general Québec rate of 11.5%.
Payroll — Québec has its own rules: QPP instead of CPP, QPIP parental insurance, a reduced EI rate and Québec income tax, plus the Health Services Fund, CNESST and the labour standards contribution. Employees receive both a T4 and an RL-1.
Letters from Revenu Québec — we read them, explain them to you in plain language and answer on your behalf.
Annual updating declaration — Québec businesses file it each year with the Registraire des entreprises.
