One accounting firm for both sides of the river

LeComptable.ca is an online accounting firm based in Montréal. Québec is our home province, and we also serve Ontario — so we handle both sets of rules for businesses and self-employed professionals in Ottawa, Gatineau and the National Capital Region. Bookkeeping, HST or GST/QST returns, payroll and corporate tax (T2 and CO-17) — all done remotely, at a fixed monthly price.

  • Packages from $150/month — same price anywhere in Canada
  • 25 years of experience with Québec, Ontario and federal tax
  • 100% online: no office visit needed
  • Service in English and French

Ontario and Québec rules we handle for you

Business in Gatineau (Québec) — GST 5% with the CRA plus QST 9.975% with Revenu Québec. Québec payroll: QPP, QPIP, Québec income tax, RL-1 slips and the Health Services Fund with Revenu Québec, plus CNESST. Corporations file the federal T2 and the Québec CO-17.

Business in Ottawa (Ontario) — HST 13% with the CRA. Ontario corporate tax is calculated on the T2 (Schedule 500). Payroll is remitted to the CRA; Employer Health Tax applies above $1 million of payroll; WSIB registration for most employers.

Selling across the river — place-of-supply rules decide whether you charge HST 13% or GST + QST. A Gatineau business billing an Ottawa client generally charges HST; an Ottawa business selling to customers in Québec charges GST and may have to register for the QST.

Living on one side, working on the other — your provincial income tax depends on where you live on December 31. If you live in Gatineau and work in Ottawa, Ontario tax is withheld from your pay, but you file a Québec return (TP-1) and part of the tax withheld can be transferred to Québec. If you live in Ottawa and work in Gatineau, Québec tax is withheld and you recover it by filing a Québec return.

Corporations with offices in both provinces — taxable income is allocated between Ontario and Québec, with a T2 for the CRA and a CO-17 for Revenu Québec.
